Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools in Scientific Research

The Journal of Engineering Research (Libya) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in scientific research. While these technologies can enhance efficiency and insight, they must be used responsibly and ethically to uphold the integrity of academic work.

Acceptable Use of AI Tools

Authors may use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL) for the following purposes:

  • Language editing or translation.
  • Enhancing code or computational models.

Warning: AI should not replace the authors' scholarly contributions or be used to generate content without full human oversight.

Disclosure Requirements

Any use of AI tools must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript, including:

  • The precise name of the tool(s) used.
  • The specific purpose or task it was used for.

Where to disclose: This disclosure must appear in the “Methods” section or as a dedicated acknowledgment after the References list.

Authorship and Responsibility

AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Human researchers bear full responsibility for the content, accuracy, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts. Misuse of AI that leads to plagiarism, data fabrication, or false authorship may result in immediate rejection or retraction.

Review and Revision of this Policy

The Journal of Engineering Research (Libya) regularly reviews its policies on the use of artificial intelligence in research and publication to ensure alignment with technological advancements, ethical principles, and international best practices. Policies are updated as necessary to maintain transparency, uphold research integrity, and comply with global standards.
